Multiple air route crossing waypoints optimization via artificial potential field method

Air route crossing waypoint optimization is one of the effective ways to improve airspace utilization, capacity and resilience in dealing with air traffic congestion delay. However, research lacking on multiple Crossing Waypoints (CWPs) fragmented separated by Prohibited, Restricted Dangerous areas (PRDs). To tackle this issue, paper proposes an Artificial Potential Field (APF) model considering attractive forces produced optimal routes repulsive generated obstacles. An framework based APF proposed optimize different topologies varying number CWPs, segments PRDs. Based framework, adaptive method developed dynamically control process minimizing total cost. The applied a busy controlled airspace. And obtained results show that after safety-related indicators: conflict controller workload reduced 7.75% 6.51% respectively. As for cost-effectiveness length, cost non-linear coefficient, declined 1.74%, 3.13% 1.70% While predictability indicator, flight delay, saw notable reduction 7.96%. methodology can also provide insight understanding other network systems.
